Can't figure out what I should do with my computer

So I'm in a bit of a problematic situation. I just bought an Asus ROG Swift PG279Q monitor and my computer is not going to cut it for this monitor:

2x GTX 970s
12 gb DDR3
I7-4770 (not k)

SLI Sucks and my cpu is really old. RIP 1440p. So I'm trying to figure out if I want to get a new graphics card or save up and get a whole new computer, because getting a better cpu would require a better motherboard.... and so on. Or I could just grab a gtx 1080 and stick it in there. But I'm worried my dated computer will bottleneck it. I don't really know how powerful or how crappy my CPU is compared to the others that are out right now. Also my computer is really messed up. If I try to oc my graphics cards I get less fps. I want to throw out this piece of junk and get a new computer, but I don't have any money and I have no way of selling this pc. So any suggestions of any kind would be greatly appreciated.

The 4770 isn't exactly cut out for the 1070. That's better suited to the i7 6700.

Can you show me a gaming difference between the two? They game nearly the same.

SLI Sucks and my cpu is really old.

Old? Up until recently it was one of the better/best CPUs out there. Just because the 6xxx came out doesn't mean one your generation back CPU is worthless. SLI seems to be having issues with newer releases so selling them and getting a 1070 does sound like a good idea.

Edit: Here is why I said what I did about the 4770 and 6700. Heck, the 4770 even wins some of these. They are both fast i7's, more than enough for gaming.

yes junk that old pc, don't forget to tell me where your dumping it so I can drive and grab it .. :)

yep your next upgrade can be massive, there is really nothing wrong with your pc to be honest (hold the critics) but if you feel you need to upgrade then you already answer your own questions... Next at this time is the new CPU, Board DDR4 etc etc.

I would see if in your position to dump the SLI set up, and go for 1080, I have my doubts about it bottlenecking the cpu but a test or more googling would be needed to answer that question.

I would love to get 2 1070s, but so few games actually support SLI these days I feel like it's more worth it to just get a 1080.

Actually it's 2x4gb sticks and 2x2gb sticks. It's samsung ram from a dell XPS 8700.

well you might see some more improvement in getting a decent pair of ram in order to match your current build.

Really? You think the ram is the bottleneck? (not being sarcastic I swear, I'm a hardware moron)

The 4770 isn't exactly cut out for the 1070. That's better suited to the i7 6700. The 1070 will only get better as Nvidia improves its drivers for DX12. The 4770 will hold back the 1070 not allowing it to fully spread its wings.a 1060 6GB will offer better performance and more VRAM than 970s in SLI.

On a side note you are calling a 4770,12GB RAM with SLId 970s a piece of junk. Capt. obvious at your service. That's just downright rude. Sounds like a spoiled rich kid whining about the wrong color Mercedes Benz S550. Not trying to anthropomorphize PC hardware but instead empathizing with those that are still using a dual core or less with a 750Ti or less. You have no way of selling it? http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/forum-8.html If you are too young to sell then yeah, reinforces the spoiled rich kid perspective. A 4770 i7 is not crappy. Your perspective and expectations are disproportionate. 12 GB RAM, 4770, GTX 1060, Z170 board = fluid 60FPS 1080p @ 60Hz or 120Hz EASY. Do you get less FPS if you dedicate one 970 to physx only and overclock the other one AND overclocking your 4770? Yes I saw the non-K. http://www.overclock.net/t/1412668/reaching-higher-oc-with-bclk-straps-haswell There are other ways of overclocking.

Junk? Far from it. Junky perspective? Nope. Just an opinion.

Alright I'm just going to sell them and grab a 1080 or 1080 TI when I get around to it. Thanks for everyone who answered.
