I'm about to upgrade my CPU, and mobo from an asus a58m-e and a amd a8 6600k to an MSI h81M-p33 and an i7 4790. I just wanted to make sure if the RAM i currently have would still be compatible with the new mobo? I have 2 different rams in use at the moment 1 4gb ddr3 kingston and 1 crucial 8gb ddr3-1600 for both which makes for a total of 12gb. Will both those ram still be usable with the new mobo and will my zotac gtx 970 be okay with this setup as well? thanks in advance for any help! :D

Solution
The Ram should be compatible with the new motherboard. I can't guarantee you that there won't be any problemes with your Ram configuration (you should go for same capacity, same frequency, same timings)

Matched pairs is obviously the best situation. However, use what you have and see if your system is stable. Worst that can happen is it will lack stability and you'll purchase a matched set. No harm will come to your rig.

yeah, as much as i'd like to buy ram as a pair, I bought my ram separately due to lack of budget. same way as i had been building my pc piece by piece, because i don't have enough money to buy it all at once. but i'm hoping my ram will still work as good as they do right now :)

If there are no problemes with your old setup, I would say there won't mostly be any with the new motherboard.
