upgrade current rig

Hi guys new to the forum, and was wandering if i could pick your brains? so my current rig as it stands i have

i7- 4820k @3.7ghz
gtx 1070 8gb
8 gb ram
and a 2 tb standard hdd

what can i get to speed this up? or is this okay?

You should look into buying an SSD, it will speed up load times on the PC, you could also double up on your RAM as 16GB is probably the current sweet spot. Your CPU is still good and doesn't need upgrading and the only faster GPU is the 1080 or (if your motherboard supports it) adding a second 1070 to run in SLI.

There is nothing 'wrong' with that spec if you're happy, but an SSD is a nice improvement in general on any PC.

What's your budget and what are you using the system for?
First of all I would recommend you geeting an SSD for your OS, main programs and some games, this will give you a noticable speed boost in loading times. An upgrade to a GTX1080 and 16GB of Ram will give you a perfomance boost in games and rendering.

thanks guys that is great help well the gtx 1070 only arrived today to replace 2 gtx 680s in sli i was just concerned my cpu was going to give me issues, i will get a ssd now. :)

any suggestions on what ram?

8GB is enough memory for all but the most demanding of games but if you stream your gaming sessions, run music in the background or play windowed with a web browser on a second display, then you might benefit from adding another 8GB. It's not a necessity, but it does make it to where memory is never something to even consider when you're operating your system.

Installing an SSD for your operating system is a huge day to day operating upgrade, but it is not going to improve your gaming performance per say. Faster map loads but it's not going to improve your FPS. If you're installing windows from scratch on that new drive, make sure to disconnect your existing hard drive to avoid master boot files being written to both disks. That would mean that you need both drives connected for windows to operate so when one drive fails, you're hosed.
