Hello, I have recently moved to a new place and currently plugging my PC into new inputs/outputs. The questions I have are, I wish to use my surround sound system (5.1) for my PC I do not have a sound card but I do have a graphics card. Which is the best option to get 5.1 sound hooking the HDMI cable directly to the receiver or a DVI, side note either option I choose it reads it as another screen there is no way around that?

Next question is I have a tv I will be connecting it too, should I connect it through HDMI or DVI converter?

Thanks

Solution
Every modern motherboard will have integrated sound that is decent.
I would use those outputs.

Since you have a discrete graphics card, I would connect your tv/monitor directly using hdmi.
No need for the complexity added via a converter.

Didn't even think of using my motherboard for audio transfer. I'll try and post back with results!
