I have been trying to troubleshoot a bugcheck 0x124 error for some time and its driving me nuts. I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light.

My Setup:

  • ZOTAC H55ITX-C-E LGA 1156
    Intel i5 - 650
    Mushkin 1066/1333 DDR3 Enhanced

I have run a number of tests using Memtest86+. If it runs i get errors. I have tried both slots and both DIMMs and get inconsistent results. If both sticks are in then I get errors. In either case when you get one error I would assume new ram sticks asap. So I did...

I bought two new identical 4GB ram dimms from newegg and now either the system video will not display (when i have both sticks in) or BIOS freezes during memory test at 3003MB.

I have tried combinations of 1 new stick and 1 old stick. No dice. I have noticed that the DRAM settings when I put the old DIMMs vs the new DIMMs is a bit different. 9-9-24-108-5-4-5(#'s from memory). I tried booting up with the old DIMMs and changing the settings in the BIOS to match the timings displayed by the old DIMMs and then replacing with the new DIMMs. No change.

I have also tried, clearing the CMOS (removed battery), purchasing the same MB for testing (found one and bought it then they responded and told me its out of stock).

Ideas? Thoughts? Magic?

Thanks

UPDATE:
1) I disabled the memory remapping and the system will boot with the two new DIMMs however only 4GB is available. If i restart it then hangs on the memory check during POST.

2) I ran MemTest+ on the new RAM and it passed with no errors 5 times.

Solution
Update the BIOS if there's a later BIOS than whats on it now. That stop error is usually CPU related

It can also be caused by overheating or overclocking
