I guys, i want buy a cpu on ebay for a friend of mine as a gift. But i am not sure on what CPU should i buy, a small disclaimer it has to be Intel. Do i go for one one of the xeons or a pentium/i3 and a more recent motherboard for future upgrades? A old i7 is also a good one to think off?
Can you tell me some good cpus on ebay?
I have seen some xeons for 15$ and can play everything with a good GPU.

There seems to be a lot of things you don't understand here for one when you ask what is the best CPU used for $100 it would be nice to assume you have a Motherboard and Ram to go with that correct?

LGA775/771 is obsolete and investing in one of those...
If it's an 1150 or 1151, it's pretty recent. I really wouldn't really put in an Xeon as the motherboard is not designed to handle that type of CPU. You need to get the exact type, at least the chipset. Without, trying to find a CPU chip is pointless.

But in this price point do you think it's better to get a decent pentium which has a recent mb or a older cpu that performs better?

If it was me, I would save a bit more and get a better CPU. At this price point, it's not worth it. Again, what kind of board is it? That's the important thing here.

LGA775/771 is obsolete and investing in one of those very high end CPU'S that will run you $75+ requires also a high end motherboard $90 and up. Only the Q9XXX chips and equivalent are going to be anywhere relevant and still be slower than a $80 FX-6300 overclocked.

LGA 1366- Some of these are still quite good provided you have the supporting Motherboard and RAM for instance a X5670 for $60 can be overclocked to around 4.2ghz and come close to current gen CPU'S in gaming. I7-960's and above are still relevant as well but high end board to run any of these are still going to cost you $100 or more.

LGA 1155- I5-2500K or E3-1225 still a great CPUs and is going to cost you right around that $100 that's about tops for that price range.

LGA 1151- You could find a few of the locked lower end I5's for $100.. Decent CPU's better to spend you money here and be more relevant on upgrades.

LGA 1150- $100 will net you Pentiums and some low end I3's.. Current gen best performance beyond your price range listed but best for future upgrading.
