Hello, I've been having a problem recently where my 1tb Iomega external hdd keeps crashing windows explorer when I tried to copy to it. I can copy from the drive but not to the drive so I was able to move all my backup files to a temporary drive. I just deleted the volume but it won't reformat and the same thing happens: windows explorer won't respond. WIndows explorer won't crash if I switch off the drive, though. I should note that I have Windows 8.1 Pro and I just recently upgraded to it. Now if the drive is on it's way out that's fine because I'll get a new one. I got 3 years out of it, but if it's a driver issue or corrupted drive or something I would like to fix it. Any one have the same problem or have any ideas?

I actually tried it on a laptop running windows 7 pro and it formatted right away. So i'm sensing that the drive is good, it's just windows 8.1. Thinking back when I upgraded to 8.1, I chose not to have drivers automatically installed (because I didn't want it to install incorrect drivers for something pretty stupid really) and that might be the reason.

UPDATE: It seems that a driver is installed. It's the same exact microsoft driver that I saw on that laptop.
ANOTHER UPDATE: I checked the drive with crystaldiskinfo and it's calling it a samsung when it's actually an iomega(my ssd is a samsung-kinda feels like they're linked). Other than that the drive is in good health. I should further note that I did use this external hard drive as a boot drive recently.
