Can I upgrade my 2GB RAM if I only have one slot?

So my laptop has been performing pretty slowly lately, as I've downloaded some more intense editing and music programs for my computer. And I know one way to help it with multitasking and speed in general would be to upgrade its RAM. The thing I'm slightly concerned about (because I don't know enough in this area) is that I only have one slot for RAM. It's the 2GB that my computer runs on. Would I be able to simply replace that with an 8GB RAM? My computer says it can go up to 8GB, but I'm just not sure if I can replace the existing 2GB - or does there have to be another slot to add new RAM to? Any answers would be much appreciated :)

It looks like you can upgrade the RAM to a single 8GB stick. Not going to lie though, it kind of looks like a pain in the butt to do because the RAM is on the backside of the system board. Usually it is not an issue, but it looks like the laptop has no back cover, you have to go through the keyboard side.

Here is the pdf link from HP's site. You should find the RAM or memory installation instructions on page 79.

Exact make and model of the laptop? Some can be upgraded, others can't. Some can be ordered with more RAM at the time they're purchased, but it can't be swapped out by the user later on.

yes, pelase tell us the model, each model offers different options

some comes with those 2 soldered and a slot for more, other says 8 but you had to buy it with 8 because there is no slot, tell us the model to search for more info about it

OS Build: 14393.576
Product ID: 00326-10000-10000-AA685

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

yes, it seems that you have to take the back cover, remove some screws and then remove the keyboard

it can take ddr3l 1600mhz

corsair or kingston usually are what best work in terms of compatibility

is you machine a celeron?

that model is quite slow, something that could help you on speed could be a ssd, if you already haven't changed it, that would give you more speed on this case than the ram

i had a tablet with 2 gbs of ram and for light use those 2 gbs were perfect for me, youtube, office, libreoffice, light games, all worked well but because it had a cheap ssd in it, consider buying that too, it will represent faster boot times, shutdown times, better speed loading browser and most apps but the limitation here is those two cores on the celeron so it will improve alot but won't be suddenly like a i5
