My newly built asus z-170a board will only let me boot if I have 1 ram connected. It will not allow for 2 to be in there. I tried moving them around and can verify both ram sticks are functioning. Tried all the different configuring of ram slots as well. What should I do now to get both ram slots working? I don't mind purchasing one 16gb piece of ram but anyone know what I can do to fix this issue?

I had a very similar problem. If you're having the same issue that I had then I bet you're using a Hyper 212 Evo or equivalent cooler. I found that the cooler bracket was causing an issue with my CPU socket. Try using a different cooler or lightly tightening to cooler bracket. I swapped my cooler out for a liquid cooler and my issue was solved that way.
