An power outage just happened in my neighborhood. I wonder if this can damage my hardware because my pc was on. I don't have any surge protector or ups(unfortunately). My question is : Will I discover the damage immediately when I'll turn it on? Is it possible that the damage will show it's self hours or even days after the power outage?(motherboard, HDD, CPU, PSU). I am aksing this because on my old desktop there have been several power failures in the past but it worked fine..then one day my mobo suddenly died.. And it was an 1366 socket with an i7 920..so I just bought another system and now I am scared!

If you have a good PSU it will most likely protect you from this, and perform a safe shutdown. If there is any damage that happens, it will be when you first turn it on, if you can.

A good PSU should protect from this, and a UPS adds an extra bonus to allow you to shut it down manually and safely.
