Hi, im building my new pc today but wont be able to get my new hdd till next week. I have an old hdd in my old pc which has windows 7 installed and own a new copy of windows ten. Is it possible for me to partion my old hhd and install windows 10 on that partion in my new pc so that it will install all the new drivers my new pc components need without the old drivers interfering. If so will i still be able to access my documents from my old hhd?

Hi there Chickenjunkie,

Yeah, I believe you will be able to install Win 10 on a separate partition on that HDD. Also, you will be able to access the data stored on the drive. Yet, you will need to reinstall the applications.

You can use a tool like MiniTool Partition Wizard (http://www.minitool.com/partition-manager/partition-wizard-bootable.html) to create a new partition.
That might be the easiest way to keep your old data intact.
You have to be careful while installing Windows 10 so you do not formate your drive during the install.
