I recently bought one 4GB stick of ram from Ebay - 'Corsair Vengeance CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9' however when I have put it in, the computer has blue screened 1 - 5 mins upon starting up. I have tried mixing it with my original ram Corsair XMS3 3x2GB and also taken my original ram out and had the 4GB stick on its own and either way it blue screens. Please tell me if it's because the 4GB stick must come as a 4 for a total of 16GB or if the ram is just faulty. Thanks in advance.

Solution
What MoBo do you have ? Is it dual channel ?

Rule No. 1: Dual-Channel means two (2). "Install sticks in multiples of two". If you installing odd numbers of sticks or mismatched sticks, you are compromising performance,

Rule No. 2: Avoid mixing RAM from different packages. Mixing modules from two different packages is a crapshoot. Might work, might not.

Rules for ignoring Rule 2....

a) the more **things** that are different, the less likely your chances of success. These include:

Brand
Series
Model No.
Revision No,
Module supplier
DDR-Speed
CAS Timings
Module Size
Voltage

b) Options for 'making it work include:

More voltage
Lower speeds
Higher timings
Reduced clocks

Rule 3: Follow MoBo manual instructions MoBo Manual...

My advice:

a) return what you just bought
b) Sell everything else
c) If ya want 16 GB, buy 2 x 8GB in the same package
