RAM managers/cleaners, do any of them actually work?

I've got 8GB DDR3 Ram and since I keep a lot of Chrome tabs open I tend to use memory cleaners like Clean Ram which is the one I'm using now. Sometimes my RAM will spike up to 70% and when I turn on Clean Ram it goes back down to 40% or something.

And despite what most people say about Ram cleaners/managers being bad for the PC, I haven't noticed any sort of slow downs or anything while using this memory cleaner.

So, can those actually work or not?

At best, they don't do anything, at worst, they slow your computer down or contain malware. Windows does a good job of managing RAM, no need for third party solutions.

Nope. Well, i have no doubt they are clearing your RAM.

But clearing your ram is pointless - it actually makes your PC slower. When you have lots of tabs open - they are in use! Of course they are being stored in your RAM - what if you click on one? Chrome just doesn't want you to have to wait around for things to load.

If your RAM is full, those less important things are the first to get the boot, so say you start a game that wants RAM, well it takes all that fluff RAM from the system - it takes priority.

While i have no doubt it "works", i do not believe it does anything.

Plus... modern ram has a latency of around 4ns, or, .000000004 seconds. You could clear it and fill it a million times before you even perceived a change.

RAM usage is RAM usage. Either those cleaners are closing operations which then need to be reopened and thus waste time or they are loading everything off to the hard drive and again waste time when they need to be reloaded onto RAM. Frankly there is no point to them because Windows and every other OS ever does this already.

At best they are a placebo at worst they are closing threads that need to stay open and loaded into RAM for proper program functionality. This of course assumes the program itself isn't just a malware delivery vehicle.
