I have a Hitachi Deskstar 3.5 inch ssd model HDT725032VLA380 and I need to get the files off of it asap. I've tried for several months to get the files off using a couple different cables, but none of them will work because it is a 3.5" hard drive with a 2.5" input that requires the voltages for a 3.5" hard drive. Does anyone know how to fix this without having to dissasemble an my laptop? Thanks

Best results I've had was with using a drive bay dock like https://www.amazon.com/Kingwin-EZ-Dock-2-5-Inch-3-5-Inch-EZD-2535U3/dp/B00JKM0KUE or https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-External-Docking-Station-DS-UBLK/dp/B00IKAQ538
Hey there, Ittech27.

If you don't have the option to connect the HDD internally via a standard SATA connection, you'll need to connect externally via an external enclosure/dock station/SATA to USB adapter. However all of those need to be externally powered, as the USB ports cant provide enough power for a 3.5" drive.

Hope that helps.

Can you give me an example of one I could get that would be relatively inexpensive (less than $15) if possible? I've tries a couple enclosures and none of them seem to fit

Unfortunately as an official WD representative I can't really recommend any specific products/devices which are not under the Western Digital brand. Sorry about that. Hopefully someone from the community will see the post an offer a few options for you.

Basically what you're looking for is either an external enclosure for 3.5" drives (it should have a cable for the all since it's for 3.5" HDDs), or a SATA to USB adapter, again one which can be externally powered.
