I built my first gaming PC about 2 years ago. I went on vacation 4 days ago and it worked fine then. When I came back yesterday it would turn on and everything would work, except when I tried to run a game it would restart. No idea why it's doing this. It's not my GPU as I took it out and put in my old one and both had the same result of it still restarting when trying to play a game. Help me please

I'm pretty sure it's not my temps. When I first got my PC it would turn off when playing a game. That problem was due to the temperature of my CPU. So I bought a fan and now my CPU temps are great. My GPU has never had a problem and I just bought a new one that temperature is great. My parts are

Mother board: ASRock fm2a78m-hd+
CPU: AMD athlon x4 760k
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 960 SSC 2gb
PSU: corsair cx430 ATX 430 watt power supply
Case: azza Sirius

It's probably the PSU, the CX series has never been that great and you are running it quite close to the limit and with how old some of your parts are I guess the PSU is at 2 years old and would be best of replaced. If you want something new then the Evga G2 or Corsair RM---x or Corsair HX---i units are excellent, I'd suggest getting a 550w PSU.

It's either temp related or PSU unless you have a borked card the PSU is the no1 suspect.

I am having the same issue and am arriving at perhaps the same conclusion. About a month ago I would have a forced restart in a game a couple times and now with some games it doesn't take a minute to turn off when cpu temps are at 35C.

i7 4770 (temps don't rise above 42C)
Asus 780 Ti (3gb)
G. Skill 1866 2x8gb
corsair PSU cxm 750

What are people's thoughts on power energy rating?

I got a 600 watt evga power supply and i installed it and when i booted my pc everything seemed fine. Then i launched a game and it worked. After about 5 min i got a bsod. i then tried again and another bsod. after that i just restarted my pc for the third time and tried again. I lauchned the game started playing for about 3 min and my pc restarts. ive just waisted the only money i had for a psu and it didnt fix my problem. now im pissed off with my pc since i dont know what is wrong

I was just beginning to worry about my purchase of a PSU. I don't want to tinker with an otherwise well-working system if it is a software issue. I watched a couple videos on how to test a power supply and it looks simple enough provided the right precautions are taken. Are there any other possibilities that can be explored? I did a RAM test and everything came out fine and drivers are up to date.

Two games I have trouble with within minutes are still in development (Long Dark and Kenshi) and are definitely not well optimized. That said, I can play demanding games like Wild Hunt on ultra for hours without a problem. GTA5 knocks out within an hour. RAM peaks at 13gb on GTA out of 16 for the system. Is it RAM?
