Hey there,

I have been going through a problem recently where every now and then, I'd get a black screen for 2 seconds. This doesn't stop any sound, game or task, it's as if someone unplugged the cable and plugged it back in. There isn't any windows alert sound when this happens so it's probably not a faulty cable. I also monitored my GPU temps and they same to be very normal, peaking at 72 whilst playing Battlefield 1.

This issue is a very frustrating one because I don't know how to troubleshoot it and when playing competitive game, it significantly affects your gameplay because you never know when it's going to happen. This only started happening recently.

Here are my Specs:

EVGA GTX 960 4GB SSC - Overclocked to 1484MHz
i7 4790k - Overclocked to 4.5GHz
MSI Z97S SLI KRAIT EDITION
2x4 GB Fury Ram
EVGA 500w White PSU

Solution

From my experience PSU is the most likely part that is just cutting power and you get a black screen but only way to check is to get a new one to see.

Disabled the overclock and the problem is still happening. I also did a clean uninstall of the drivers using DDU and nothing has changed.

Does this happen only in BF1 ?? as i had the same issue it would go black and only sound would come out but works fine in other games.

The problem began happening when I started playing battlefield but now it does it on desktop too. I haven't been playing other games so I couldn't tell you if it happens with other games but it definitely happens when I'm browsing or on desktop.

It's just weird that it suddenly started happening. I've had my rig for exactly a year and it only started doing it 2 weeks ago. I will use my brother's monitor to make sure it's not my TV that's causing it.
