Will an i5 6600k fit on a Gigabyte GA Z97X Gaming 7 Motherboard?

I have a GTX 980 graphics card, but I still can't run games like Battlefield 1 on Medium, and I believe it's because my current processor is a i5 4690k. Will the i5 6600k fit on a Gigabyte GA-Z97X Gaming 7 motherboard, if not, what should I do?

Nope, you will need a Z170 mothoerboard.

Before you pretty much go with a new build as you'd need a new MOBO and RAM with that CPU, have you checked things like usage and temperatures?

I agree with this. Didn't even see the other text. But a new motherboard will require new RAM since the Z97 is a DDR3, and Z170 is DDR4. You may consider keeping what you have as their is only a 5-10% increase in performance.
