I installed my after installed windows which is on an ssd. In the bios the harddrive is shown to be working but when i go to devices and drives, it does not appear. How do i make my harddrive usable?

Hey there, Henry.

You did well by having only the SSD connected to the mobo during the Windows installation process.
If this is a new build and a new internal drive, you need to initialize it first before you're able to use the drive. Open Disk Management and check if the drive's recognized there, then initialize it in order to be able to partition and format it afterwards. Here's how to do it: How to initialize or write a signature to a secondary hard drive or Solid State drive in Windows.

edit: Looks like I've been beaten to the answer while I was typing. :)

Hope that helps. Please let me know how it goes.

I have gone to disk management but only the ssd appears, if i go on device manager it appears there though

Would you be so kind as to post a screenshot of what you see there? Here's how to do it: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/faq/id-2176231/guide-posting-screenshot-forum.html.

If there's a disk with a small red arrow you should be able to right click and select "Initialize Disk" if it doesn't pop-up on its own.

You could also try connecting the drive via a different SATA port and cables, to see if the same thing happens.

Is this a new drive or have you been using it up until now? I'm asking because it might be useful to know if you've had issues with it before. Also if it's an old drive do you have data which you need to recover from it?

Go ahead and give it a try with a different SATA port and cables (as already suggested), or even better with a different computer if you have that option, to see if the same thing happens.
If you have no data which you need to recover, you should also download the HDD manufacturer's diagnostic tool and test the drive for errors and bad sectors, to see if anything alarming pops-up.

Please keep me updated.

I just did a test and it said the harddrive was fine, i changed the sata port and just the same happened. Do i need to do something in my bios?

It's really weird. You shouldn't have to change anything in your BIOS in order for the drive to be working properly, but you could check if the SATA mode is set to AHCI. Did you try the drive with different cables as well?
Since this is a WD drive, I recommend that you run both Quick and Extended tests of DLG (Data Lifeguard): How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows

You could also check if it is properly recognized by a different computer by connecting it either externally or internally.
