Thermal paste dries out?

I installed the heatsink but it wasnt on properly due to those plastic legs that bend. It was around two days it wasnt on properly and the computer gets really hot when playing games. Should i re-apply the thermal paste?

i know how to clean and put it back on.

Its also fine when idle

yes, anytime you remove a heatsink you should redo the thermal paste. If you were to just pull it off and put it back on it can trap air bubbles between the two surfaces.

clean and repaste you could use mx2 or mx4 they do not need cure time .

I did that and under load the CPU runs at 40 degrees instead of 100, thank you for your help and tiny bit of science about the bubbles.

you could also reduce temp with a after market cooler and good air flow in the case .
