Can't change my resolution to 1920x1080 no matter what I do.

My GTX 770 is done for so while I wait to save up for a new one, a buddy of mine is letting me use his AMD radeon R9 280x card.

Anyways, I have a 1920x1080 capable monitor as that was the resolution I was using before on my other card which worked fine, but now my computer won't let me change to this AT ALL.

I have the updated drivers too. Going through windows personalization doesn't even give me an option for 1920x1080, and going through Radeon settings, into custom resolution, it doesn't even let me change it. It says my monitor can't handle that resolution and to try again and I know it can for a fact.

I'm honestly at a lost. All help is appreciated.

quick edit: I am using dvi to vga adapter. Not entirely sure if that matters. As my second monitor, using HDMI cord, can run 1920x1080.

Another edit: I cannot open "Radeon additonal settings" either. It says i have no additional settings..

Also, I have tried removing all the drivers, and reinstalling them three times with no fix.

I did not. I didn't know I had too! But I will now.

It's obviously a VGA 920x1080 monitor but the brand, what is it? If it has similar button functions as my LG 1920x1080, then my settings should help you.. I had the same issue at first and the solution was in the "Fün" monitor button that makes the display area resolution from "4:3 in Wide" (1280x1024) extend to "Photo Effect" (1920x1080). Once that's set, the final resolution can be set from the Control Panel.
