Hello, I built my first custom pc this year around August. Everything booted just fine and seemed to be running smoothly. After a few days I started experiencing random freezing. This started me on my journey to find out where I went wrong and if something was faulty.
Specs:
CPU: AMD 9590 4.7Ghz
CPU Cooler: 280mm Corsair 115i
Mobo: Asus Crosshair V Formula Z AM3+
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080
PSU: Corsair RM 850x Gold
OS: Windows 10

I have refrained from including the Storage and Memory as I have ruled both out using different components.

Things I have tried:
- Completely wiping the drives and reinstalling windows
- Multiple BIOS settings including turning off AMD turbo boost and manual setting all ram timings and voltages
- Reseated and reapplied thermal paste to the CPU
- Updating/Rolling back drivers and slowly adding back programs
- Reducing the cpu core clock to 4ghz
- A few more misc things I can't think of off the top of my head

The freezing seems to be completely random and can happen anywhere from booting up to Hardcore gaming for hours on end to browsing the web. The timing can range anywhere from boot to days without a freeze. The freezing has been bare able due to the quick boot time it hasn't bothered me much. Lately the freezing has become increasingly bad. I haven't been able to stay on the computer for more than 10-15 minutes at most with out a freeze. I have stress tested the cpu and gpu and neither seem to cause increased freezing. During stressing neither have broken 60 degrees Celsius. BIOS is up the most up to date version for the mobo. All power ports on the mobo are filled in order to provide enough power for the CPU. Event viewer does not show any errors following a freeze besides unexpected shutdown. Any ideas are welcome. Thank you in advance for any answers.

That cpu is an absolute nightmare, I'm inclined to blame it for your issue but you have already done what I would recommend to fix it, underclock the cpu. What is cpu voltage? What is cpu nb voltage? Have you tried disabling cool and quiet? Its notorious for causing freezing on OC'd FX cpu's.

I have read that a lot too. I am just trying as hard as possible to not have to replace it and spend the money. I am really trying to hold off and see how the new AMD Ryzen turns out but the freezing is becoming unbearable. Current voltage is about 1.5 according to CPU-Z. The NB voltage is around 1.1 and Cool and quiet was set to Disabled by CPU so I switched it to Always disabled I don't know the difference though. The computer actually froze during my first attempt to reply to your response.

Have you ever tried turning up that northbridge voltage? 1.1v is quite low, mine is set to 1.2v and I would say that is pretty conservative. 1.3v is the max recommended voltage for cpu nb, which your mobo should handle no problem. I would change cpu nb voltage to 1.25v or so and see if that changes anything.

Disabling Cool and Quiet did not solve the freezing. I just upped the voltage to 1.25v so I will see how that goes!
