I'm trying to update my bios for my Asus Sabertooth X79 so I can use my new geforce 1070.

The asus site tells me I need to download the Bios Converter for .rom to .cap, which I'm supposed to find in the BIOS Utilities download section.

I use Windows 7 64 bit.

I get to this page and see no link for the bios converter in either the bios section or the utilities section:

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_X79/HelpDesk_Download/

Where do I find the download? what's the name of the download? This is pretty frustrating, I suspect asus updated their website without updating the instructiobns for finding the right download link for the converter. Thank you.

Ok. Looked through all 22 BIOS version for that motherboard and saw one entry about updating to improve GPU compatibility (for the GTX680 on UEFI). If they were that specific about a BIOS update for that one card, then I would expect to see, at the very least, a generic note about improving GPU compatibility.

I do not, so why are you trying to do this?

Alright I'll take a look, thank you! Never had to do this in my life, first PC I've ever built.

Thank you for your comment! Looking into this....

Hey,

Google brought me here and I saw this was a somewhat recent post...

Anyway, the key to this issue is the OS you select on the drop down on the page you linked. Select 'Others' from the drop down menu and Bios-Utilities is there. There are 3 items, but I think the one you want is called 'SABERTOOTH-X79-CAP-Converter'

Download this and follow the instructions in the .zip carefully (i.e. Rename the file, FAT32 USB key, choose your flashing method. )

Once you do the conversion, you will be at BIOS 2104. You can then get the latest BIOS and flash again with that (either 4701 or 4801 depending on your preference).

I hope this helps and your card starts working. Good luck.
