Hi All,

My Toshiba Satellite A665-S6086 has 4GB of RAM in 2GB Cards. It's been slowing down due to windows upgrades and I want to increase the RAM to 8GB. I drove an hour to Fry's Electronics and the sales guy sold me two 4GB cards - Pacific Sun SO-DIMM PC3-12800 (1600MHz) DDR3 204-pin SO-DIMMS. I brought it home and found the Laptop would not boot up past a screen that read "Windows" with no logo (so I could get into the BIOS, but no further). Then I was prompted for a repair which hung as well.

I brought the RAM back to the store and another sales guy said "Oh, the 1600Mhz is too fast for your laptop, You should have 1333Mhz RAM". So he sold me a set of Patriot PC3-10600 (1333MHz) 204 Pin cards. I drove back home once again . . . . . same problem. Would not boot past the Windows screen.

Back to Fry's - Now I met a 3rd sales guy and he told me "Oh, you know what your problem is? The last two RAM sets you bought were 1.5 volts and your machine only runs on 1.35 volts. Sorry, we don't sell those at Fry's. Look elsewhere."

Complete waste of time. But I look on Amazon and Tiger Direct and Micro-Center and none of those seem to have what I need or at least Amazon doesn't even mention voltage for the most part in their product listings.

Any idea where I can find the correct memory cards??

Thank you!!

Thank you Elbert. So I googled Bios Update with my product model # and here is the top listing :

http://

Now this person suggested slower speeds which I had not considered.

Speed actually should not matter but does increase the possible bios compatiblity. Most memory only state their max speed while having a few lower settings. For RAM to work voltage is the highest on the list as a computer shouldn't even boot if the voltage is out of range. The second issue is stability due to the bios. In the link I posted to your laptop there are several bios updates. Just select your OS and you can see them. I would suggest the RAM at newegg as its stated to work so its more out to be stable in the oldest bios.

OK, Elbert,

So I will try installing the BIOS update on the link you provided. Then order the RAM on NewEgg. How come there are 12 different BIOS versions all posted on the same day? I'll take version 2.3 as it would seem to be the latest.

Thank you!

Actually I just checked my current BIOS version . It's already 2.3 . So I'll just order the NewEgg cards and pray.

They were all probably moved to a new drive getting them all the same day posted. I see you have the newest so yes get the newegg RAM. Be sure to ground yourself before handling the RAM and it should work unless the are bad.
