I currently have a asus H110M-E/M.2 Motherboard. I am planning to upgrade my cpu to an i7 6700 (non k version). I have made sure they both have the LGA 1151 socket. But i just need to know the proper steps in replacing it so that i don't mess anything up and so I can just go back to using my PC like normal. Thanks

Insuring the socket is compatible is in fact the first step, with Skylake CPU's that fit in the 1151 socket they don't have any varients in retail that are not compatible with any motherboard design. So that will work. No software changes are necessary. Simply insure to use thermal paste and install the heatsink as normal (their are tons of installation tutorials on youtube, though if you find them too confusing I can certainly clear that up for you).

Updating the BIOS will not be necessary, all skylake motherboards support all skylake CPU's (as of now, the next generation will change this) barring Xeon and socket 2011v3 processors. It's generally not advisable to update the BIOS due to the inherent risks unless their is a known problem affecting the motherboard.
