Can I overclock my I3 540?

Hi, I have my i3 540 running at 3.06 ghz which is the stock speed.
I have ordered a 1060, I know it will be a big bottleneck but I don't want to do anything else so I wanted to if I could push my CPU further, not much, around 3.5 ghz is my desire. I'll upgrade my CPU or move to newer gen but in a few months.
Specs:
i3 540
550w PSU
Intel DH55TC
I have a CPU cooler but not sure which (pretty sure it's not stock), temps don't go higher than 60C while gaming

Here you go this is a pretty decent guide. Just do very small increases at a time and run the intel burn in test every time you go into windows for 30min to see if it is stable (the first little increases 5 min is enough as it will work just fine).

Ocing that cpu is possible however the max allowed temps of that one is 75c and you'll need a decent cooler to oc. Going to 3.5 will probably be doable on your setup.

Can you help me with it? I'll keep an eye on the temps too see if it's going too far.

Thank you! Overclocked to 3.4 ghz and it turned out to be stable according to Intel burn test. Although the max was 81c so it worries me, do you think it's safe?

Not safe
max is 75c.

You sure? I don't want to underclock it now, while gaming it doesn't even reach 75.

75 is the limit if you go over it you start damaging the cpu.

Okay, thanks
