Xbox 360 HD swap?

Now that the xbox 360 can use larger external hard drives, can I format an external hard drive through the Xbox dashboard then swap it into the internal hard drive case on an original Xbox 360? I know there is a hack that involves dl'ing some formatting software and doing it all through PC, but that required specific HD's to work, and well is a lot of extra steps. I have an old 160Gb external HD I'm using with the Xbox but I'd rather swap out the 20Gb internal and get rid of some clutter on my shelf.

The internal hard drive of the 360 still has to be a specific size.

I used to do this back in the day and unless something has changed, you can only use hard drive sizes that are available for the 360 originally. In other words, for the original you can only use 20, 60, or 250GB drives (250/320 for the S). So you can't just throw in another size (i.e. your 160GB drive) and expect it to work.

On top of that, I'm pretty sure the 360 formats the external drive and the internal drive differently so that negates your plan.
