I have an old computer at home that i want to install Windows XP on, and i have the Product key, wich sits on the pc case, and i have the same motherboard that was used with the computer. its a prebuildt 6 year old computer, but i have changed out the PSU, GPU and some fans and 1 RAM stick. im still gonna use the same hdd that came with the build. it is booting, and i have fixed all errors that where present, but now im wondering how i can istall windows XP SP2 on it. again, i have the product key, and i have a cd player on the pc. what is the easiest way of installing widows XP on it? i am really good with pc hardware, but software isnt my strongest side.

sorry for any spelling mistakes, im in a hurry.

That motherboard only has driver support up to Windows Vista. Not sure if you could get everything working on Windows 7 or later. You would have to check each site individually (NVidia, ADI, and Marvell) to see if drivers are available.

I don't know if you can use just any Windows XP install CD from E-Bay with your product key. You might try the computer's original manufacturer to see if an ISO can be downloaded. You'd probably need the system's model number and product key (if they even allow it anymore). Windows XP really is your best bet here.

BTW - I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ available if you're interested. Working perfectly up until my ASRock 99Dual-SATAII motherboard failed. PM me if you're US and are interested.

You're going to be hard pressed to find a legitimate site to download the ISO for Windows XP. If the hard drive has not been formatted at all, check to see if there is a way to create a restore disk that should allow you to perform a clean install of Windows XP (and the SP it originally came with).

thanks for the answer. would it be easier to just buy a install cd on Ebay or something then? if not, what other operating system would be an easier solution? The specs are:

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2.2Ghz
MSI R7 370 2GB TwinFrozr (i think)
HDD 200GB (can't remember the brand atm)
ASUS ABN-VM Motherboard
Corcair 1,5 GB RAM (will upgrade sometime in the future)
CX650M PSU
1x CD-ROM & Floppy Drive

I know the specs are a mix of old and new hardware and things are gonna get bottlenecked.

Thanks for the help, i will probably just buy a new cd with a product key. I have all the boxes and papers that came with the computer, so ill check on their website if they allow ISO Downloads.

Again, thanks for all the help, i appreciate it.
