Will 2 different graphics cards work be compatible with each other?

I currently have a gtx 670 and have thought about upgrading to a gtx 1070. Would I have to remove my 670 or can I keep it in my rig? Also would using both of these cards make a difference in performance for my games?

yes remove it, there is no real benefit to keeping a 670 if you get a 1070
