hey!,

maybe you could guess my question from the title. im currently running a setup with the FX 6300 and i wanted to update my gpu to a MSI RX 480 GAMING X 8gb. so will i have any bottlenecks while running the rx 480 with my fx 6300. and is my psu good enough? i have the corsair VS450

thanks!

Solution

Actually the MSI is rated the best for the RX 480's because it does not have overheating issues like the others did. look it up on www.Techpowerup.com /

The Corsair CX series are absolutely junk. They do not cost much because their parts are of cheap/poor quality and the PSU's have a bad tendency to die quickly. Other Corsair PSU's are fine but teh CX series are just expensive paper weights.

If looking into a cheap, yet quality, PSU...

The msi gaming x wont take any more than 180W with not much of an overclock. also CPU not much.so PSU is...ok. but i dont recommend any Overcloxk but it will work. just make sure its 80+ bronze. or get a 500w psu there is not much prize difference. Dont worry your setup will work . mo bottlenecking just no crwzg overclocks.

processor: FX 6300
motherboard: MSI 970 gaming
processorcooling: Arctic 64 plus
2x 4gb DDR3 ram
samsung 250 gb ssd
320 GB hdd
psu: corsair vs450

does this help?

and what rx 480 do u recommend me buying ?

80+ bronze means absolutely nothing in terms of quality or performance.
also there's not a single high grade PSU with exactly 500W on the market these days, it's 550, 520 or 450W

the RX 480 has a recommended minimum PSU wattage of 450W. As long as you do not overclock anything you should be fine on the Power end of things.

As for bottleneck's some games will have a bottle neck because of the CPU. This could be helped with a hefty overclock to the CPU but that brings us full circle to my last statement.

If looking into a cheap, yet quality, PSU look into the XFX line up. These are actually made by one of the top PSU builders (Seasonic) but cost less than the name brand with all of the quality of the name brand.

I agree however the new CXM lineup is generally a pretty good deal. 5 years warranty, the threw in at least some halfway decent caps, dc-dc converters and so on.
might not last as long as a Seasonic/XFX but outperforms their lower end units usually

Not so much when you compare ripple and noise then add it into the equation. The least ripple and noise is where your most solid power levels come from allowing the system to become more stable, albeit more so when when overclocking then when running stock clocks.
