Im stuck between the 2. Ive seen a ton of benchmarks and how the 1060 is better in DX11 and the 480 is better with DX12, but i mainly play old games like planetside 2, skyrim (SE), Borderlands 2, Arma 3, MMOs, and a few early access games like squad and insurgency which i believe all use DX11. Then again, i want to play new games like BF1 and Titanfall 2 as wells as upcoming games like Mass effect: Andromeda (which is the game im most concerned with when choosing between these 2 cards because of DX12). So i just need some suggestions really. thanks.

OH! Also price doesnt concern me, so dont use that to compare the 2 cards.

I would go with the RX 480 because it will last longer. It runs DX11 games alright, and then all new games will use DX12, which will make it better than the 1060 in the long run.

I guess you're going to have to decide which is more important; DX11 gaming or DX12/Vulcan gaming.
I just did a little experiment myself. I tested Doom 2016 (Vulcan) with my GTX 980 and my inexpensive RX 470. The RX 470 produced about the same fps numbers as the more expensive GTX 980. Plus the colors always look richer to me on AMD cards.

So, unless you want to wait for AMD's RX 490, it's still a toss-up.

I own the 8gb rx 480. And I like it, if your in that 200 to 250 price range it's probably the best choice. But for most 2016 title the 1060 runs better with less power. But the problem about being confident in a purchase is going to be how long the life span of the card will be. I chose AMD because of the focus on future api. And they also have good drivers throughout the years. But both will deliver good frames @1080p provided your cpu is adequate.

But, you do get more vram at that price with amd and no one knows of that will matter in the future, seems like most games are made by whatever console generation is out now, and it seems like ps4 and xone still have a few years in them. So for now 3gb cards are still fine.

I digress, my opinion (and my purchase) out of the options Rx 480 8gb is very compelling.
