Question: Can i modify my power supply to turn one of the 6+2 PCIe connector into a 4 connector by cutting and splicing in a connector from an old power supply?
Here is the reason: So I have an MSI Z170A titanium, the 24 connector is not a problem. Up by the CPU there is a 4 pin and an 8 pin connector. I assume both of these are CPU power connectors and I need to plug power into both. The manual implies that by saying to plug power into "all" the connectors. Down by the PCIe slots is the 6 pin so I assume its the PCIe power connector.
My power supply is an EVGA 700B and has 2 PCIe 6+2 connectors on the same line, and 1 4+4 connector on the same line. I need another 4 connector as the 6+2 PCIe power connector will not fit in the 8 pin connector at the CPU and I am using the 4+4 there.
So, can i modify my power supply to turn one of the 6+2 connector into a 4 connector by cutting and splicing in a connector from an old power supply?
Thanks!
