Hi all,

So, we took home a new Z170 Pro Gaming mobo today, and here's the problem: there are 4 devices connected to SATA ports, but two of them do not register in either the BIOS or in Windows (note, all 4 of these are being moved from an old PC to this new one).

1) Boot drive (SSD) -- this is recognized.
2) DVD-RW drive -- this is recognized.
3) Another SSD -- not recognized.
4) HDD -- not recognized.

Multiple workarounds, and nothing has helped. Used many different SATA cables on the ones that don't work. Moved the ones that do work to different ports to make sure it wasn't bad ports, it wasn't...all the ports are fine. Tried plugging in a few to different cables from the PSU in case it somehow was the PSU not being able to handle the load...no help there.

I have the motherboard set to recognize AHCI (the only other option was RAID, which I know is not correct).

Any help would be immensely appreciated!

Solution
Rather than defective, is it possible that drives 3 and 4 haven't been formatted? What interface do the SSDs use (SATA, AHCI, NVMe)?
