Should I buy an i7-4970K or wait for the i7-7700k? My i5-4460 might be bottlenecking my GTX 1080!

Hey,

So I have a GTX 1080 Founders Edition and I feel like me CPU might be bottlenecking my GPU. I play at 1080p but with a dynamic resolution of 2.0x (2715 x 1527) and all settings maxed out. The games I play include GTA V, Battlefield 1 & 4, Dying Light and Cities: Skylines and the GPU never reaches above 80% and hovers between 60-80%. This is especially evident in GTA and Battlefield games where the CPU, with all 4 cores, maxed out at 100% with occasional dips on CORE 3. The games in question never get to go above 60 FPS as well (V-sync disabled).

So my question is: Should I wait it out and get the 7700K when it arrives in store and goes on sale (a couple of months) or just get a 4790K now and see if it improves anything?

Rig:
- Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz
- 4X4GB (Quad Channel) 16GB Kingston 1866MHz ram (running at 1600MHz)
- ASUS H97-PRO GAMER
- GTX 1080 FE
- Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB
- WD 1TB BLUE
- EVGA SuperNOVA 750 B2

Thanks!

i Think If U Can Wait :) So Do It And Afford The 7700k :)

But U Know For 1080p Gaming The 4790k Is A Master :) But I Suggest U Wait A Little More

And Also Just Wanted To Say If U Decided To Afford The 7700k Its A K Series Mobo With Overclock Capability So U Need To Afford A Z Series Mobo To Overclock It ( Without This Overclock Havent Any Difference :( )

Also if U Wanna Afford The 4790k The Situation Is The Same :) u Should Afford A New Mobo ( Z Series ) Which Can have Effect dUE To Ur Overclock :)

Regards :)

If your using this PC for gaming, then I suggest going for neither the 4790K, nor the 7700K, an i5 CPU is all you need for gaming, you will get little ,if not none, extra performance with an i7 while gaming, the i5 goes above and beyond the call and right now the i5 6600K is on the top, I'd suggest waiting for the Kabylake i5 7600K, and see whether it's better than the Skylake 6600K , if however you still want to go for that expensive i7 CPU, wait for the 7700K and compare it with skylake's multiple varaints: 6700K/6800K/6850K/6900K/6950K, but I repeat this will NOT be of benefit gaming wise.
