Hello.

Recently I bought a Samsung 850 EVO 1TB as an upgrade to my old HDD that I use on my desktop computer.

I opened up my computer, unplugged the old HDD and plugged in my new SSD and started the computer. But then I get this message:

No boot device available
SATA 0 : Installed
SATA 1 : Installed
SATA 2 : None
SATA 3 : None

I have the SSD plugged in to the SATA 0 and my discreader plugged in to the SATA 1. I put in the installation CD that came with the SSD but nothing happened? I would be very happy to get some help!

Solution
You connect the ssd to a port and power

You need a USB option not sata to boot from a flash drive

In that case remove the vista hdd first. You cant use an SSD install disk to install windows. You need a windows dvd

You have to install windows on it to make it bootable

You have to install it then boot from the windows dvd or flash drive then install windows on it

And if you've got windows 10 enable AHCI, secureboot(if it supports it) and UEFI (if it supports it) in the BIOS first

I've got Windows Vista on my old HDD, but I have an installation cd for Windows 10 Pro that I was planning on installing on my new SSD.

How do I go about? Do I plug in both the HDD and SSD and install Windows 10 onto the SSD somehow? I'm sorry I'm not very good at this.

Do you want to use Vista?? If you dont unplug the hdd for now.

Install the SSD. Boot into the BIOS put the bootdisk on DVD. Save settings boot from it

If you want to dual boot Vista and Windows 10 leave the Vista hdd connected, install the SSD then do the above

Whats the brand / model of the mobo?

I want to use Windows 10, Vista is a pain. I think I have a Dell 0R849J motherboard. It should support SSDs.

How do I install the SSD? I've started the computer and put in the CD I got with the SSD but it stays on this screen:

No boot device available
SATA 0 : Installed
SATA 1 : Installed
SATA 2 : None
SATA 3 : None
