Hello everyone, I am unsure on what CPU to get mainly because of all the fanboy-ish answers I see floating around.

I am looking to spend around ~250 euros on my cpu and intend to use the cpu only for playing games. At least quad core is a must, so the i3 is off the table for me already. Overclocking would be nice but is not required. I intend to run the games at 1080p and may upgrade to 1440p in the distant future.

Also, I see that a lot of the CPU tests in games are when it is isolated, i.e. they run the game at low resolutions to benchmark the CPU. If I do not intend to run at low resolution to isolate the CPU, and instead run at 1080p to put the workload largely on the GPU, how much will the CPU impact my FPS.

Solution
Resolution is entirely GPU intensive, it will not impact resolution. For 250 euros the best option would be An i5 6600 or i5 6600k if you intend to overclock. An i3 6100 is better than anything AMD has to offer at the moments so AMD is off the table.
