I just bought my 7200rpm hitachi deskstar its not working. I checked my motherboard map in the boot up bios menu and its not there. I thought it could be that the sata cable was broken so i switched it. (still broken) I thought it might be the power supply was out of juice so i unplugged some stuff to see if it could boot it up. (still broken) I thought is could be a glitch so i tried booting up windows and it was not found as a boot device.

If you have anything for help it would be much appreciated as i am on a tight buget and dont have the money to buy a new hdd.

Merry Christmas & Welcome to the TH Community, @ArichieR06!

I'd advise you to check how your new HDD is recognized in a different PC, if you have access to another one. Check how this hard drive will show up there as well. If the problem is still present and it's undetected in Windows as well as in the BIOS menu with multiple SATA ports and SATA cables, then it could be faulty. Anyhow, I'd still advise you check how it gets detected if you reset BIOS. Make sure you re-configure all manual changes in the BIOS interface afterwards, since the reset will get them back to their factory default condition.

I'd also suggest you go to the motherboard manufacturer's official website and check if you have the latest BIOS version...

How big is this HDD and what are your PC specs? Posting these details could be really helpful to us.
