I bought the mycloud 2tb storage 3 years ago and it failed today. I can not connect this device to my network. I tried different ethernet cables and resetting 40 seconds, but still no go. The network light will flash once when power back on then after few second it will go off as if there is no network connected. The front power light is solid yellow. I am not sure what to do now, but I have some really important files that i need to recover. I took the hard drive out and attached it to my external usb hard drive, however I cant see any files in my windows 10. I saw 6 different folders instead. I read some where here that this is due to linux files format. I am complete noob to linux. Please help. Is there any tutorial? I watched some youtube video but when I mount the drive it says must specify the filesystem type...I am so lost.

Also, if I buy another WDMYCLOUD device and swap out with my current hard drive, will it work? I really need to access my files....

Merry Christmas, @swzeng!
I'm truly sorry to hear about your issues with the WD My Cloud. Unfortunately taking it out of the enclosure has voided its warranty (if it was still covered by it). :( In order to determine where the problem is coming from (is it the My Cloud enclosure itself or the HDDs and their data), I'd strongly recommend you try connecting the My Cloud HDD to your computer and then use a Ubuntu Live CD in attempts to get your files accessed and backed up ASAP (at your own risk)!
Unfortunately, if it's an HDD failure, you might want to consider contacting a professional data recovery company. They would be your best bet on getting any of the files back.
In the future, ALWAYS remember that...

In the future, ALWAYS remember that "backup" means that you have your data stored in at least two (2) locations. Moving data from your system drive to an external hard drive OR NAS is not a backup, unless there is already a duplicate of the file on a different drive!

Hope this helps you. Keep me posted if you have more questions.

I agree with SuperSoph a Linux boot CD should allow you to mount your DataVolume and access your files provided the drive is healthy. You can check the SMART health status of the drive with the Linux command smartctl.

FYI you can see the specs of a working MyCloud here... http://mybookworld.wikidot.com/forum/t-768658/wd-my-cloud:some-specifications

If you get stuck or need help shoot me a PM. I work on Linux based NAS devices all the time.
