Hello,
I just recently purchaced an asus b150a-m/m.2 motherboard with an intel i5-6500. I'm a gamer and I realize I realistically should have purchaced a z motherboard but that isn't an option anymore. I want to exchange and pay a bit extra to an i5-6600k and I was wondering if my motherboard would hold back the 6600k, and if so, how much?

Thanks a ton for helping me!

Upgrading to the 6600k isn't going to be very cost effective since you wouldn't be able to overclock with it. At stocks speeds, there just isn't a huge difference between the 6500 and 6600K. The motherboard isn't going to affect performance by much on it's own, so I would just leave it as is. If you want to overclock, I would consider the 6600k, a Z170 motherboard and faster RAM (assuming you have 2133 now). Even the 6500 at stock speeds is still a good gaming CPU for all but the highest end graphics setups.
