Need help with finding the best Linux OS

I'm building a new PC, and I'm unable to pay for an windows operating system at this moment so I would like to make use of a Linux version but I'm unsure of which one is best for my intentions. I plan to use this PC for mainly gaming (using online game sources, online downloadable games, and steam games) and school uses. Many of the games I plan to play are listed as only available for windows and mac, so I would need an OS that is able to support something that can run these. Thank you

Well in order to run a Windows game, you kind of need Windows. I may be wrong, but I don't think Wine is still that good to game on. Someone else can correct me,.

Then you are mostly out of luck in the Linux world.

There isn't a specific Linux distro that can natively play games that are Windows only.

There is a function within the Linux world called WINE, which is a compatibility layer that run some native Windows applications.
Support for games in this is very spotty, though.
