Unusually high FPS Titanfall 2 R9-390 crossfire

2x 390 @stock running titanfall2 1440 max settings @120ish FPS =
Surprised. :eek:

First, I'd like to clarify that I'm certainly not complaining about any of this, and not looking for a 'fix'... more an explaination than anything.

So, I downloaded Titanfall 2 yesterday, and had a very quick 30mins blast on attrition multiplayer. Loaded up FRAPS, cranked the settings up, and then noticed the counter hovering around the 120ish FPS.

Double checked the settings to ensure I had changed it to1440p and it was.

My PC:
I5 6600k
2x R9 390 @stock clock
1TB hybrid drive
250GB evo SSD (WIN 10 OS is on)
Newest ReLive drivers

Settings were set to the highest settings, insane and very high, filtering I kept to 2x or 4x.

I really wasn't expecting crossfire to be working as well as it did. Since I've been having a lot of crossfire issues lately anyway. Looking at benchmarks, a single 390 is anything around the 55-60mark. Which would suggest a 100% mgpu scaling... Which is unheard of.

I weren't sure if the benchmarks I've been looking at are dated and recent driver fixes have helped performance a lot to explain my performance.

I'm suprised, and chuffed... the game performs excellent and didn't frustrate me in the slightest like I have been with other games/crossfire.

That is indeed fascinating. I don't personally know anyone that has two R9 390's in Crossfire, so I couldn't tell you how it's possible. Perhaps it's an exceptionally optimized game, just like Overwatch. Out of curiosity, what make and model is your power supply? I only ask because I've read that two 390's necessitates a 1,000 watt PSU. I just wanted to ask the opinion of someone that has experience with this setup.

By the way, two R9 390's in Crossfire is bad-ass. However they must consume a lot of electricity and generate a lot of heat. It occurred to me that you have the option of selling the R9 390's on Ebay for $200 each. The proceeds could be used to buy a single GTX 1070. On paper, it should have the same performance as your current GPU setup, but you'd need to confirm that before possibly proceeding. I just thought that I would mention this idea. Congrats on having such a great rig.

GTX 1070 has 150 watt TDP
Two R9 390's in Crossfire have a 550 watt TDP (275 watt X two R9 390's)

I have an XFX850 gold. Solid PSU which easily powers the 390s. Providing you go with a decent brand PSU you can get away with lower than 1000watts.

I'm genuinely suprised though at th results of titanfall 2. Especially since before christmas I was looking at crossfire support for it, and it was looking quite dire... so you can imagine my surprise yesterday when expecting somewhat of a mess!

Rcald2000, I have actually been looking into selling the 390's and get either the 1070, or see what Vega has to offer. Since I have a freesync 1440p monitor. Power draw isn't as bad as what people think it is since the GPU's rarely hit max power draw in gaming situations.

Heat also isn't an issue on mine, I've ran various benchmarks and stress tests and can't get them over 65degrees, while utilisation all looks normal. But I have a very large case with AIO on the cpu and very very good cooling and airflow the case in general.

Just booting the game up again now, make sure I wasn't drunk yesterday haha
