R9 280X in crossfire sli

I have an xfx r9 280x and a power cooler r9 280x and I wanted to both put them into my system, I have one cross fire ribbon, but do I even need it? Can I just put the graphics cards in and plug each one into a different monitor?

What are you trying to do? Crossfire won't allow you to use the second card for a second monitor, the second monitor will still need to be plugged into the primary gpu.

If you want to crossfire please confirm full pc spec including make and model of PSU and motherboard.

I think with the 2xx series cards you need to use the ribbon but I'm not totally sure.

ohh okay sorry I thought you could have it so there's one gpu per monitor

I'm trying to have it so I have the 2 gpu's running in my system in crossfire.

i5 4670k
16gb ram
gigabyte Z87 D3HP mobo
RM1000X corsair psu
r9 280X
