So I am in the process of building a new PC and I have just the power supply and case right now and I was wondering if I just connect all my case fans into the motherboard and plug the 24 pin ATX connector into the motherboard would my fans start up, allowing me to test if the motherboard is dead? Thanks

@ USARet, exactly, I included ATX bridge so OPs could test his fans first, I didn't argue your 1st reply, didn't argue your 2nd reply, my 2nd reply wasn't intended for you, seemed to me OP doubt his future motherboard (maybe used or refurbished purchase), simply precaution measure of time waste RMAing.
Rather than arguing my every reply, why not provide OP with actual steps of ensuring motherboard guarantee of stays off hazard forinstalled parts.

Just wait until you have all the parts.

1. 99.999% probability that it is not broken
2. Having the fans run is no guarantee of 'not dead'
3. You need a CPU in there

I don't think I wanna check dead motherboard using new parts, if I to test dead motherboard power delivery I'd use digital multimeter + 12V power switch + voltage stabilizer with built-in surge protection/under-over voltage protection.

Nothing in the OP's post indicates a 'dead motherboard'.
It is a partial collection of new parts, and he wants to eliminate the 0.001% chance of a DOA board.
