Hi, a friend is selling his i7 4770 for really cheap and I'm wondering is it worth upgrading from my i5 3570K or not?

I play games like DayZ/H1Z1/Miscreated/GTAV.

I can run them relatively fine now at 2560x1080 / High or Very high settings at roughly 40-60fps constantly.

Specs :

i5 3570K
GTX 970 4GB
8GB RAM
Motherboard would obviously have to change
240GB SSD

Would I be wasting my time upgrading or not? The whole 'i7' from 'i5' is what's making me think 'oh yeah that'll be great'....

Any help appreciated :)

i7 4770 is not the 'k' one. Though the name suggests you use the i5 3rd gen and you're getting to use the i7 4770, I'll recommend you to go for it. Make sure he doesn't have any problems with it. But the sockets are different, you'll need to change your mobo. the i5 3570k is lga 1155 and i7 4770 is lga 1150. Hope it helped.
Like if it makes you buy a new mobo, and the budget's tight, Don't go for it.

He's unsure if it's the K or not, I told him to check but he hasn't yet. I'm not worried about overclocking tho. He has no problems with, he uses it everyday to game with me haha. He might throw in the motherboard too if I'm lucky.

What kind of performance boost am I looking at?

If you aren't OCing, its not much but yeah just you quoted 'cheap' so the i7 4770 sounds cooler emotionally.
Recommended for a bit of future proofing. The single core performance and price you paying for i7 is worth it ; just because money is not a barrier, its a wise step. Else save for steam summer sales.

He's only selling it cheap as I'm a friend and he's upgrading to a newer i7. I could probably get the money from selling my CPU & motherboard locally anyway so I wouldn't be out of pocket atall.

Thanks for your help :) I'll go ahead and get it when he upgrades and get back you. <3
