Edit: solved - faulty power supply, it was dead on arrival.

Huge thanks and respect to all the contributors in advance! I admire your keenness to help that I've seen in other posts.

Overview
I built my first custom PC with all new parts, very diligently. I turned on the PSU and hit the power button, everything ran for 30 seconds (CPU fan, case fans x 3 and LEDS, GPU leds and fans). I went to check wiring on the back side and came back around and all fans had stopped. Only the mobo remain lit up by it's own LED's.

History
I wanted to have a go at building a computer for a change. All the parts were brand new and were delivered via post. I had mates advice and followed many threads and youtube videos (and the manual) during the build. The computer worked for a short period (no keyboard/mouse/screen attached), but stopped after 30 seconds. Now the "SB_PWR" led remains lit and the mobo lighting, none of the test LED's have lit up, nor any beeps sounded.

Full Story
I did not breadboard as recommended. I installed into the case neatly and double checked everything before the first boot. The first time I booted, I turned on the PSU and hit the front panel power switch. Everything booted up for about 30 seconds (no screen, keyboard, mouse connected). The mobo lights were on, the CPU fan and case fans and LED's came on, the GPU lit up and fans came on. I went to check the wiring at the back and plug in the USB mouse/keyboard (I can't remember if this was before or after the problem began) and came around to the side again, and everything had turned off except the mobo, "SB_PWR" led, and mobo lighting. I do not have the USB 3.0 or the front panel audio plugged in as I am using the ICY BOX for this. I have tried it with this in, and no change.

After all my troubleshooting the situation is still the same (even with peripherals plugged in). There is no system beep, none of the 4 boot check LED's have come on. The computer will not respond to the power button, nor shorting the power switch pins.

Steps already taken
I have followed the "perform these steps first" thread, and have googled and FAQ'd. I removed all but the essentials and booting still failed. I tried using only one RAM, and switching slots. I removed the mobo to check for shorting. I checked the CPU fan installation, CPU installation and thermal compound. I checked the orientation of all front panel plugs. I removed the mobo button battery and replaced with a brand new battery. I tried shorting the Power Switch pins where the front panel connectors attach. I tried switching the reset/power buttons to test if it was a button malfunction.

Thanks Alexiou. I went to run this test, but have no way of connecting my 3-pin fan connections directly to the PSU. It's also public holidays over christmas so nothing is open and I can't get any adapters.

Still stumped! If the mobo lighting all turns on could we assume the PSU works?

Thanks again Alexiou. Good to know that.

I did try this again and no luck still. I put my ear to the PSU while pressing the start button and can hear a minor tick when I press it, so at least I know the start button is working (it happens each time I turn on/off the PSU switch and then hit start).

Thanks mate. Got it looked at the other day. It was a faulty Power supply. DEad on arrival. Bad luck I guess. She goes again and the build was done well apparently :)
