Should I buy an extended battery or a battery case for my phone?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini. I want to get something for it that will protect the screen from cracking if I drop it and something to extend the battery life. My phone is slippery so I would like the case to have some kind of grip to it. The two options I have found for extending the battery life are buying an extended battery/larger back plate or buying a battery case for it. I want to know which of these options are more cost effective and are just better overall. I do not want to spend more than $60 total including shipping and handling. If that budget isn't feasible then let me know and I will reconsider my options. If you have any additional options to accomplish my goals please let me know. I don't want to deal with a battery pack because I want the battery to last longer and this doesn't solve that issue. This still makes me charge it, just not at a wall outlet. So, my main questions are...

1) Do they make cases that go over phones with extended batteries in them?
2) Should I buy the extended battery or the battery case and why?

Solution
Well it does extend your battery life. AT the cost of possibly shortening the lifespan of your battery. It's basically just a charger for your phone thats build into the case, so your phone is constantly charging until the case dies out. Good or bad for it. They'll say fine. Experience is it kill 3 phones in my house with the same style cases.
MY experience in battery cases is they kind of suck and seem to kill your phone battery faster. Reason, they just plug into your charger port so they constantly charge your phones battery and never let it discharge until the extended battery is dead, than your battery of your phone kicks in.

Extended battery at least is just a bigger battery, usually with a larger back case that thickens the phone to fit it, but at least then it's just a regular battery and acts like one.

So, you have used battery cases before and they suck? Well that's dumb if they are just a waste of money. Why would they sell something that doesn't do what it is designed to do (extend your battery life)? That doesn't make much sense. What do you mean "but at least then it's just a regular battery and acts like one". It is not a regular battery, I would hope it would last longer than a regular battery. And yeah I would assume it acts like a battery since it is one :p. You didn't really give too much of an opinion on what you thought about whether an extended battery is worth getting or not. What I got from what you wrote was that you don't like battery cases. If you could elaborate more on your opinions that would be helpful. Also, if you know whether or not there are phone cases for phones with extended batteries and special larger back plates then that would be useful. Thanks
