Hello all,

Recently I've been having trouble with my most recent build. I built the computer 6 months ago and everything has worked flawlessly up until now. Last week my computer began to continuously blue screen, so first I did everything I could on the software side of things like updating drivers, reinstalling OS, updating BIOS, etc but the PC was still blue screening. Until eventually the PC wouldn't reach the BIOS and I was just left with a black screen on boot. At this point I'm thinking it's a hardware issue of sorts. When booting the PC up, the VRAM LED flashes once, and the BOOT Device LED flashes once, and the VGA LED stays solid red. I removed CMOS battery as well as shorting the jumpers and nothing changed. I also tried booting without my GPU, and with my GPU in another PCIE slot and the VGA LED stayed on, onboard video won't work either. Everything else in the case is working like it did from day one, all fans power up, CPU has power, GPU fans are spinning, etc.

Is it time for a new motherboard? Anything else I should try before I send it in? Newer to building computers so any advice would help!

Here is my build:
i7 6700k
Asus z170-pro
Gtx 970
Seasonic M12II 850w bronze psu
16gb Kingston hyperX
Corsair h110i water cooler
250 gb Samsung Evo ssd
1 TB Seagate HDD

All help is appreciated!

That is what I thought, but I sent it in 3 times only to have them send it back saying it was fine. I would call them and get an RMA if I were you. Telling them that I had a solid red VGA led when there was no GPU plugged in was enough for them to give me an RMA. Perhaps it will work for you.

I have this exact same problem with the same Motherboard. I have sent it back to Asus 3 times only to have them clear the cmos and say it works fine. I posted a thread yesterday asking for help. Asus has been no help.

Take out your gpu and see if it happens with on board video. Mine does.

I even tried another Asus Motherboard, and it won't post most of the time. I should have bought a different company's motherboard to test it now as I think it is a problem with their boards.

Tried taking out the GPU and booting with onboard video...same result. This has got to be a Mobo issue right?

I will go ahead and try to get an RMA then. Probably the best way to handle it at this point.

Thank you!
