PC Randomly restarts without warning

Hey guys,

A problem with my PC has occured and has been happening for sometime now, my PC, which I've had for around 3 years now has started to randomly restart without any warning, there is no BSOD and no error logs, I have just installed a new graphics card and motherboard and that has had no effect on the issue, the restarts seem to be completely random, nothing I do on the PC seems to increase or decrease the likelihood of a restart, also I can go a few days without the restart or it can happen 5 times in 5 minutes, it seems to be completely random.

I can provide the specs of my PC if needed.

Go to Windows Event Viewer, Windows Logs, System, then filter for Event ID 1074. That will show you the process and reason for shutdowns.

What psu are you using???

I have gone to the windows event viewer and filtered for Event ID 1074 and it said there were no logs, does this mean it is possibly a hardware issue? Also I believe I am using this psu https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/a3o/Atrix-Expert-500W-ATX-PSU-12cm-Fan/B00DQSURG0

Thats a crappy psu and might be failing. You need to try a better psu.

Most likely a dying psu issue here, but also try to extract the event log as well for a better understanding, as suggested above.

Hey, I know this is a long time since the last post on this thread so no-one may see it, but I just replaced my psu because that was the suspected faulty part, and the problem is still there. So now the only remaining parts are the ram and hdd and cpu, could this problem be caused by a faulty hdd because my computer is very slow to load up, and my hard drive is fragmented.

Was the problem there after you changed the psu or did it just relapse, as i can see your last post was around 4-5mnths back.

What brand/unit/variant have you installed???
If its a good unit, then the problem lies elsewhere. Is there any power fluctuation before the restarts???

Its a Corsair CP-9020097 550W psu. got nothing but good reviews on amazon. Also i'm not really sure how I would notice any power fluctuations? ( My suspicion is the RAM or HDD).

Not a very efficient unit there. Try running the pc on safe mode for a while and see whether the issue persists.

I ran the pc in safe mode for a while, problem still occured but it seemed to happen less frequently, im not sure if ot is the psu still, my last psu was awful and this new one is a huge improvement, also my pc doesn't have huge power requirements, i think 550W should be more than enough, I have a sneaking suspicion it could be the RAM.

Then do memtest for 8 or 9 passes, or mdsched at extended level.
