Hi i recently bought a GTX 1070 and realised i needed a new power supply so i bought a Crosair VS650 after installing both of them my PC won't start when i press the power button nothing happens I've checked all of the connectors like the 24 pin and the 4 pin CPU one and they're all in tight is there a way to get my pc to turn on?

Solution

What exactly was your old power supply?
Also can you tell me what CPU and other specs you have.

Just some obvious kinda stupid questions to get out of the way :p
1) Are you sure you have the switch flipped to the on position on the back of the power supply
2) Have you actually connected the power button cable to the little connectors on the motherboard

Also you should have went with a better power supply, the VS line from Corsair is shit.

You say you 'never unplugged it' but have you actually made sure that its in the right place etc, like you havent mixed around the PWR btn and PWR led the wrong way around, or something like that.
Do you get literally nothing when pressing the power button, like powers on for a second and shuts off immediately, or fans twitching and thats all?

Tbh, the new PSU you got might be dodgy. Also both of those PSUs are about the same shitty quality.
Also, were you experiencing problems with your old power supply?

Because if you weren't, there was no need to replace it.
Test the system with the old power supply to check if its not just the new PSU thats the issue.

Ah i see why you needed to replace it because it only has 1 6 pin pcie power connector, probably need more than that for a 1070. I thought that you replaced it because of the power. 500w is more than enough for a 1070 and i5.

Tell you what you could try, try running the system without the graphgics card in and then see if it turns on, then if not. Try running it without the graphics card with the old power supply, if it turns on without the graphgics card with the old power supply but now the new one, then the new PSU has a issue

It's too late to prevent problems for you, the original poster, but for any other newbies reading this I say DO NOT install more than one new thing at a time. In this kind of case, if you feel the new videocard needs a better PSU, fine. Install the new PSU first, then test the system to make sure everything is working. If it's working, now install the new videocard. Then test the system again. This makes troubleshooting any issues much simpler.

What I would do now, in this case of the computer not working, is put it back the way it was. Put the old power supply and old videocard back in. You know those parts work. Then once it's back the way it was, and working, refer to what I wrote about installing one new thing at a time.

I probably should have said this sooner, like dontlistentome <--------- great name btw
was saying, one of the better ways to solve something like this is to do it piece by piece.

Also the 1070 does NOT 'require' 500 watts at all. A single 1070 uses less than 200watts...
