New high end PC slow performance

Hey all, so I just got an Alienware Aurora R5 for Christmas. Specs are as followed - i7-6700 @3.40Ghz / Nvidia GeForce GTX1080 FE / 16GB DDR4 RAM. From what the reviews and game play on YouTube show which are the same if not similar to my PC. Games like Battlefield 1 run at 150+ FPS on Ultra in heavy combat whereas I am getting around 70-80 FPS during heavy combat and sometimes as low as 52FPS which you start to see the choppiness. I test other games I play like State of Decay and that barley pushes 65FPS on ultra as well as ArmA3 on the best settings. Also H1Z1 even on low vs high graphics i get around 45 FPS like the graphics did not matter, it was just stuck around 45fps (vsync off/ forced off). Does not make make sense to me haha. Do I have a sub par PC? I mean my old rig, an i7-950 / GTX 670 / 8GB DDR3 RAM had those games playing just about better as far as State of Decay and H1Z1. The most noticeable difference i see from my upgrade is in War Thunder from my previous 65 average FPS to my now 180 average FPS on the new rig. Any Ideas or suggestions to what could be going on? I only play at a 1920 x 1080 resolution at 60hz and I never use Vsync or any frame limiter. EDIT: Here is quick link on the Battlefield 1 forum regarding that game if anyone wants to have a read

All FE cards throttle:

http://videocardz.com/60838/msi-geforce-gtx-1080-gaming-x-is-much-better-than-founders-edition

GTX-1080-FE-clocks-over-time.png

As you can see the AIB card from MSI stays at a solid 1910 Mhz where as the FE card throttles ith pefrfprmance jumping up and down from 1670 to 1800 MHz.

We are looking at clock stability and temperatures here. NVIDIA’s own reference design suffers from severe throttling just after few minutes. It probably wouldn’t be that bad if not the frequency spikes. While average clock is somewhere around officially stated boost clock, those spikes cause micro-stuttering, which negatively affects gaming experience.

Hardware.info:

Founders Edition suffers from a horrendous amount of throttling and it runs +- 150 MHz lower all the time.

Meanwhile, MSI GTX 1080 GAMING X generates almost a straight line for GPU frequency (~1910 MHz), with no spikes and rather constant sub-70 C temperature. This should mean that the gaming experience will be much better, and card should theoretically generate better results in most tests. Also according to H.I. this is also the best custom design they so far tested.

You can use MSI Afterburner to up the fan curve settings and keep the card running cooler to minimize this effect.

The 1080 is actually "too much card" for your Resolution and Refresh rate, the 1060 is about 3 x faster than the 670.

So my best solution would have the fan run 100 percent all the time? and in games it dosent use the full 100 percent of the card. and it stays around 65c so would it still be throttling. So i looked up this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wqe_wRkvM8 his 1080 FE usage is 99 percent and hes getting around 150fps. But mines hangs around 50-60 percent usage

problem is aver game and every section of every game is different..... you test foo problems, throttling, temp issues, Furmark is the universal "go to" app.... it will keep ya card at 100%

As to fan speeds, 100% works all the time if the noise doesn't bother you.

Im sorry I dont quite understand what you put. Is it just because i got the shitty Founders Edition GFX card thats causing all these problems?

Until you test using a load which is 100% reproducable on every card you don't even know that you have a problem. Three people buy the exact same car....

1st guy travels back and forth every day to work and racks up 1000 miles.
2nd guy goes camping 500 miles up into the Rocky mountains, most at high altitude, there and back.
3rd guy visits a job site 100 miles away for a week in the prairie lands of the midwest

How do you compare mileage when the conditions are so different for each user as to elevation above sea level, highway versus city driving, and flat versus steep grades. To determine if your card is able to run at 100% full load without throttling, you need to 1st test at 100% full load, games will not do that... Furmark will.

Once that is determined to compare "in game results" you need to use the exact same game at the exact same settings, thru the exact same sequence with the exact same components

I have benchmarked with Furmark. and it gets up to 99 percent load around 75celcius. My question is though, is the founders edition crap becuase i hear so much negative talk and how its unperformed compared to non FE cards. Im asking is it becuase the FE im getting crap FPS or is it another thing like the nvidia drivers

How long did you run it ? ... 20 minutes minimum or until curve is a straight horizontal line. What did screen say with regard to % TDP and:

Power:
Temp:
Volt:

As I recall... of any of those 3 go from 0 to 1 it's throttling

If no clues there, then I'd call Alienware (aka Dell) .. start out right from the bat indicating you are no satisfied and ask them to send an e-mail confirmation of your dissatisfaction with date and case number. This will establish a potential for a refund for which I assume you only have 30 days (depending on country / state). Better yet, have the person whose credit card it was charged to make the call.

Again, make it clear that if they can't address the problem and fix it, you intend to return for refund. Oft what they will try and do is tell you to try this or that and call back... and then delay you until the30 days has expired.

I did it until it was a steady horizontal line. I ran it again for longer, about 10 minutes and i topped out at 85C with 99 percent usage. the TDP was 117 percent and the power, temp and volt was 0 until i got up to about 70 then the power wen to 1, but the rest stayed 0

Again, to my recollection ...the 1 is an indicator that the card's performance was being throttled... it would appear in your case to be because you exceeded power limit.

Idle temperatures are excellent, which is no wonder since the fans don't stop in idle. During gaming, the card goes above 82°C, which results in lower clocks due to Boost 3.0; see our Boost 3.0 Analysis for more details.

Well I increased the power limit to 120% and the temp limit to 92c in MSI Afterburner. But i did that because i was able to get alittle gain out of it in terms of FPS.

I didn't overclock it. I didn't increase the memory speed or anything. Just let it run hotter before it cut back on power. Basically I should just get a regular 1080 you think because the FE just seems like a big pile ------. My gtx 670 ran better

MOD EDIT: LANGUAGE

I'm gonna have to bow out as recent posts have simply been repetitive or contradictory

Well I increased the power limit to 120% and the temp limit to 92c in MSI Afterburner

Tho you are not manually changing the core speed, by increasing the power and temp limits, you are allowing Boost 3 to dynamically OC the card and increase the "boost clock".

Also ... mind language ... forum has a PG rating

I apologize for the language. But it just seems like there's no solution or fix for the founders edition which I was originally enquiring about. Are these cards really this bad?
