ok so im new to this pc building stuff so sorry if my comments sound a little stupid but ill be putting a new gtx 750ti into my pc (upgrade from my built in graphics) and im not sure on how to go about it, does my pc still load normally without the drivers installed. do i uninstall my built in graphics in the BIOS, insert my new graphics card, load up the pc and go on the website and download the lastest drivers. again, sorry if this sounds stupid but i've been reading alot of people that get black screens and alot of other errors when they install new drivers.

Solution
well if it has the 6-pin connection then you have to connect to it. the card will not run without it.

otherwise, the installation is easy to do.

Assuming your GTX 750 Ti has no additional power connector then it is simply a matter of installing the card into the correct PCI-E x 16 slot on your motherboard and connecting your monitor cable (read or download your motherboard manual to confirm the correct slot)

Your PC should boot into the BIOS splash screen. Hold down the DEL key to go into BIOS and confirm the primary boot option for your system is PCI-E or PEG and NOT onboard VGA (its normally in advanced settings)

Once fully booted into Windows your GPU should appear in device manager under display adaptors and it will have the Microsoft Basic Display Adaptor driver loaded. Download and install the latest Nvidia driver for your OS (32 or 64 bit) and then reboot.

Viola....you have installed your GPU.

no problem at all. we were all new at one time or another. be happy you found this site to ask your questions and did not have to figure it out on your own :D

best way is what you already guessed. uninstall the drivers for the onboard video. turn off the pc and put the new card in then boot up with the monitor plugged into your new card and not the motherboard. it should still give you a picture and will install a generic driver at start-up. once it is all done, then install the drivers for the card you downloaded off the website. you can get them before you turn it off or after it's already installed, does not matter as it will sit on the hdd until needed either way.

once the drivers are installed, you should be good to go.

good luck

yeah i was reading around and some people were saying that the 750ti doesnt require the power connector but i tried it and the monitor didnt turn on so i assume i need it. also, there is 3 ports on the graphics card for the monitor, 2 labelled DVI the other is the one i use, does this make a difference, helpful to know now so i know what cable to buy for it. thanks for the help guys, really do appreciate it

Which manufacturers make of GPU do you have? Normally there is a 6 pin connector on the back or side of the card which takes the PCI-E cable from the PSU if the card requires additional power. The reference 750 Ti does not have this connector but the board partners who produce their own version of the card usually up the clock speeds thus pushing the power envelope up so they incorporate the connector to allow the card more power.
